Green IT services reduce power consumption costs by 45%
The Fields Corporation decided to set their overall internal power usage reduction goal at 25% or more after the Tohoku earthquake on March 11, 2011, and as a solution to achieve this, they incorporated the Green IT service from JBS.
After beginning the service, within three business days we changed the power settings on 829 client PC’s to a lower power setting according to their request and achieved nearly a 45% cost reduction, and made it possible to monitor power usage.
Details of Implementation
When it became immediately necessary to enact power saving measures following the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami, FIELDS was searching for a way to reach their goal of a 25% cut in power consumption. JBS suggested using “Green IT”, an ASP power management solution.
The Green IT service provided by JBS allows for real time visualization of the power consumption of internal client PC’s and achieves energy savings and cost reduction through bulk management.
With no initial cost for implementation, we had them evaluate the incorporation of various power saving settings, run a pilot installation on 30 machines, and then decide on full scale installation.
As a result, within three business days we changed the power settings on 829 client PC’s to a lower power setting according to their request and achieved nearly a 45% cost reduction.
Results of Implementation
- Implement quickly with no initial fee
At no initial cost, the Green IT service can be used as soon as within a few days. Changes to a lower power setting for 829 terminals at Fields were completed within 3 business days. - Power-saving effect viewable with usage reports
Because you can check on power usage, power savings and CO2 reduction effects anytime in your browser, you can confirm power consumption in real time and even calculate totals. - Flexible operation not possible with Active Directory
Because it is possible to configure settings terminal by terminal, you can enact special policies flexibly to support equipment usage. Because at FIELDS there was equipment for business use that could not be set to low power consumption, specific policies were applied to this equipment, and low power settings were applied to as many terminals as possible while minimizing impact on business.

Green IT
We visualize PC power consumption and CO2 emissions to make collective management possible. We provide a service that achieves lower electricity costs and ecology. This service automatically applies Windows power management settings and achieves lower power consumption and reduces CO2.
We examine current power consumption for one month. Then we apply low power settings as requested by the user, and after two months, make viewable the energy saving effect in a monthly report. |
