In line with the company’s office move in 2014, JBS launched a work style innovation based on a company-wide implementation of free-address offices and unified communication (UC) tools. UC refers to the unification of various methods of communications such as telephone, e-mails, and web meetings.

For this innovation initiative, JBS chose to implement Microsoft Skype for Business. Skype for Business is a single tool that integrates a great variety of communication functionality such as e-mail and instant messaging, as well as icons for displaying user statuses, presence functionality displayed as textual information, web meeting functionality that allows you to share documents while holding audio/video meetings at the same time, telephone functionality capable of linking with external/internal calls and existing PBX (telephone systems), and more. This tool allows you to hold real-time communication using the most appropriate method depending on the circumstances of other people, thereby supporting the use of ICT for the company’s work style innovation.

• Use Skype for Business instant messaging and web meeting functionality to provide a flexible environment that allows people to join meetings from the outside, enabling them to work and look after their families at the same time.
• Avoid being constrained by the traditional use of telephones as the default mode of communication, by using instant messaging or e-mail depending on people’s circumstances, thereby increasing the company's organizational capability.
• Reduce travel time and expense by arranging Skype for Business online meetings instead of face-to-face meetings, allowing any freed-up resources to be assigned to other tasks, thereby improving overall business efficiency.
• Reduce the operational costs incurred in making PBX configuration changes and relocation of telephones when moving desks or changing office layouts.
