MonotaRO adopts the accounting system SAP S/4 HANA®
in response to increased transaction processing from growing sales on EC sites
Aiming for in-house operation, we are proceeding with introduction by a co-creation team system of JBS and MonotaRO

Japan Business Systems, Inc. (Headquarters: Minato Ward, Tokyo; President: Yukihiro Makita; hereinafter, “JBS”) has announced that MonotaRO, Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Amagasaki City, Hyogo Prefecture; President & CEO: Masaya Suzuki; hereinafter, “MonotaRO”) will use the next-generation cloud ERP “SAP S/4 HANA®,” which is provided by SAP Japan Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo; President and Representative Director: Hirofumi Suzuki; hereinafter, “SAP Japan”), as the foundation of MonotaRO’s next accounting system, and that JBS will be in charge of construction.

With a view to continuing to grow this new system while quickly responding to changes in the market and business, we aim to enable MonotaRO to conduct in-house operation of the new system after its introduction. Therefore, the introduction project will be advanced through a co-creation system of MonotaRO and JBS, and JBS will provide knowledge and know-how about SAP S/4 HANA® for the project.

Since its founding in 2000, MonotaRO has been steadily expanding its business centered on EC website sales of industrial indirect materials for businesses. The company has achieved significant growth, particularly in the last ten years.

Under such circumstances, it is essential that MonotaRO’s accounting system, which can be said to be the foundation supporting the growth of the company, can handle the increasing transaction volume without stress. At the same time, the accounting system must be able to respond to future work-style changes such as remote work. Therefore, MonotaRO decided to review a new system. During the review, MonotaRO set the following four conditions for upgrading the in-house system in anticipation of future business growth.

• Stress-free response to a large number of transactions
• Realization of fast settlement processing through a single system
• Mechanism for digitizing paper documents and linking them with accounting invoices
• Creation of a system that gives a bird’s-eye view of the entire business, and makes it possible to check flexible and accurate management indicators at any time

As a result, MonotaRO decided to adopt the latest ERP systems SAP S/4 HANA and SAP HANA® Enterprise Cloud, which are based on an in-memory database. MonotaRO also decided to partner with JBS, which possesses introduction know-how. To achieve these goals, MonotaRO and JBS will co-create this project with the support of SAP Japan.

MonotaRO sells about 18 million items required at worksites and factories.
These items range from industrial materials such as cutting tools and abrasives to automobile-related products, construction supplies, and office supplies. Based on the corporate philosophy of “transforming the material procurement network,” MonotaRO aims to use data science to provide high-level services that are individually optimized, thus becoming an even more essential partner for the work of customers.
The number of registered users as of June 30, 2021 is 6.15 million. Listed on the Mothers Index of the Tokyo Stock Exchange in December 2006.
Listed on the First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange in December 2009. Net sales for the fiscal year ended December 31, 2020 were 157.3 billion yen.
Forecasted net sales for the fiscal year ended December 31, 2021 are 194.2 billion yen.
