JBS Launches RoboLens, a Robot Support Solution Using Mixed Reality, in the Southeast Asian Market
2024.06.26
PressreleaseJapan Business Systems, Inc. (Headquarters: Minato Ward, Tokyo; President: Yukihiro Makita; hereinafter, “JBS” securities code: 5036) commenced the sale of robot implementation/operation support solution RoboLens® using Mixed Reality devices for the Southeast Asian market in June 2024. In cooperation with NK AUTOMATION MALAYSIA SDN. BHD., a group company of NIHON KIZAI Co., Ltd . (President: Tatsuo Kugai , hereinafter, “NK Automation Malaysia”*1), JBS is positioned to respond to market scale expansion in industrial and service robots which is projected to have an annual growth rate of about 8% in Southeast Asia.
RoboLens® is a robot implementation and verification support/robot operation streamlining support solution developed by Nextscape Inc. (Headquarters: Minato Ward, Tokyo; President & CEO: Satoshi Kosugi), a JBS group company. It is certified under the UR+ product partner program of Universal Robots*2, which holds the No. 1 share in the world for collaborative robots.
Two types of application have been developed: RoboLens® Layout, which is equipped with a robot configuration verification function and movement verification function, and RoboLens® Teaching, which realizes robot teaching with intuitive robot operation. These applications are effective for companies new to implementing robots and in cases in which staff are unfamiliar with teaching, and they contribute to improving flexibility and immediate responsiveness at the manufacturing site as well as improving work safety.
Even in cases in which verification with actual robots is difficult such as on remote islands or factories far away from urban areas in Southeast Asia, utilizing NK Automation Malaysia’s network, it will be possible to pass along UR collaborative robot teaching and technology and deliver optimal solutions for RoboLens®.
In the global manufacturing industry including in Southeast Asia, there are many factories in which mechanization has not advanced for reasons such as precision work being required. On the other hand, there many issues such as relieving labor shortages, improving work efficiency, the realities of high-precision processing, and the stabilization of quality, for which the introduction of robots would bring many benefits. In reality, the market scale for industrial and service robots in Southeast Asia is expected to grow from 790 million USD in 2023 to 1.14 billion USD, a projected annual growth rate of 7.92% for the period (2023-2028). Taking into consideration the Southeast Asian robot market, where further growth is projected, JBS and NK Automation Malaysia will expand sales to customers in manufacturing and retail in regions where the introduction of collaborative robots is anticipated, such as Penang Island, which is said to the semiconductor factory region of Malaysia, the Japanese company factory area of Thailand, and the industrial areas on the outskirts of Jakarta, Indonesia (Karawang and Cikarang).

What Is RoboLens®?
A robot implementation/operation support solution using mixed reality devices with two types of application: RoboLens® Layout, which is equipped with a robot configuration verification function and movement verification function, and RoboLens® Teaching, which realizes robot teaching with intuitive robot operation.
RoboLens® Layout
An application to verify the post-implementation configuration image in places where collaborative robots are planned to be implemented. Using Microsoft HoloLens2, it is possible to display a virtual robot to match the actual space and verify its movements. As it is possible to verify the optimal robot configuration in order to implement the intended work with a single MR device, this supports low-cost and swift decision-making.
RoboLens® Teaching
An application to enable improved teaching safety and task streamlining using Microsoft HoloLens2. Layering a hologram of an actual robot and displaying it enables intuitive operation and understanding of the situation, making it possible for not only experienced robot operators but also beginners to easily operate the robot. This provides a user experience (UX) to intuitively and easily handle an articulated robot.
