(Headquarters: Minato Ward, Tokyo; President: Yukihiro Makita; hereinafter, “JBS” securities code: 5036) will cosponsor the 2024 National Selected Programming Competition for Elementary School Students hosted by the National Newspaper Business Council* aiming to support the development of future IT human resources.
*The National Newspaper Business Council is an organization consisting of the business divisions of 45 local newspaper companies that are members of Kyodo News as well as Kyodo News itself.
Background to Co-sponsorship

In order to pass on a sustainable society to the next generation while fulfilling its responsibilities as a current member of society, JBS is incorporating initiatives that contribute to resolving social issues into its business activities.
JBS endorses this competition which aims to resolve social issues and contribute to creating the future through nationwide industry-academia-government collaboration and supports providing opportunities for children nationwide who will be responsible for the next generation to take up challenges. This competition focuses not only on programming skills but also children’s overall human potential, including their abilities to think, take action, and produce. We expect that it will provide an opportunity for children to expand their range of abilities.
Overview of the National Selected Programming Competition for Elementary School Students
This competition began in FY2020 when programming education became mandatory in elementary schools in Japan, and this is its fifth iteration. With cooperation from newspaper companies across Japan, this is a competition on a nationwide scale in which children use programs based on original ideas and algorithms to produce and show apps, videos, games, etc.

- Venue: Shinagawa Intercity Hall
- Hosted by: National Newspaper Business Council
*Regional competitions will take place in each prefecture by the end of December 2024.
